We believe articles about artists are key reasons for the sucess of the music press

I understand that music magazines can be extremely sucessful due to the fact of supplying unique information and interviews in the articles. However I believe music magazines are popular because readers love to have exclusive information about their favourite artists, before the information becomes known by everyone. Devoted music lovers want to have all the latest information before anyone else. Similarly, the information is trustworthy and reliable, because it is published by professionals. One example which supports this point of view is an article in NME about a singer songwriter called Jake Bugg. The headline “The times they are a-changing” has an intertextual reference to a 1960s song by Bob Dylan, which is successful because it attracts people who like that particular genre of music. It also allows the reader to feel clever, because they understood the reference, which means that they are well informed and “ahead of the game” about their favourite music genre. Similarly, the article about Jake Bugg is very honest and informal. He uses a lot of swear words, which shows that the article is aimed at an older audience. His brutal honesty about other artists shows that he doesn’t try to be liked by anyone, as he is his own individual artist with his own opinions, and he disagrees with artists who try to conform to the media, to make everyone like them. He thinks it’s all about his music, and he would rather be admired for his music rather than his personality. As mentioned before, articles are a key reason for the success of music press, because magazine articles are always trustworthy and reliable, whereas anybody can post any information they want over the Internet, and we won’t know what is false and what is true. However, people may argue that articles in magazines are becoming outdated because people are able to get the same information even quicker via the internet. For example, many news reports have become well known all over the world after people reading about things on Twitter, such as Michael Jackson’s death, which shows that some social networking sites are more successful than the actual News Companies.

Media exam | mock

Task 1- I agree that music press remains so popular. Because it does provide a reliable source of information that readers enjoy to read. Magazines are also very handy because there a light weight and suitable to read in your free time eg. On the train, where you might not be able to access the Internet. They also can involve exclusive information that you might not be able to find out online. Magazines are going to stay popular because they also advertise freebies such as posters, free songs on iTunes, CDs. All these things attract the audience in to buying magazines. It's also so much more fun reading thought a magazine then online, because you can choose exactly what you want and fine it straight away. However on computers you may not have a contents page. You also most defiantly won't get any freebies. Music press will also stay popular because its something you can pick up instantly, quickly and also weekly However online you can not always reader straight away specially people who can't afford a computer. Magazines are more suitable and better for our health to read because if we stare at a computer screen for to long we will damage our eyes. Readers enjoy looking in magazines and feel involved. By maybe taking part in a quiz? They don't included quizzes on music website. However music magazines may die out in the future when technology becomes more stronger.

Task 2- Music magazines are generally aimed at make readers. Q magazine with it's 75% audience of the male population are a very successful magazine. They have bold blocking font that looks very aggressive and masculine. The colours they use are mainly red, black and white these colours can appeal to both sex's but generally men are attracted to these colours as they are unisex. The connotations of red are anger and hate, seeing how this is a rock magazine is the music is mainly extremely heavy and violently played/performed. The photo in the background usually sexualises women by having them wearing little clothing, high heels, and heavy make-up. This is done to attract to men into buying the magazine. However women may also find this appealing as they might look up to this lady as a inspiring role model. The language used in Q displays to the reader that it has been targeted at the male population due to the use of swearing and slang words.

However Top of the pops has a 15% male audience. This is because it has been aimed at a younger female audience. The font used is very happy and welcoming with Coles and soft edges. They colours mainly used are white, light red, blues and yellows these are called primary colours this also converts to the reader that it has been aimed at a younger audience by the use of colours. By having some of the sell lines in pink this emphasis the magazines female population. The photos used on this magazine are mainly of boy bands such as 'One Direction' and 'The wanted'. They're all posing with big cheesy grins with their arms crossed looking directly at the camera. This suggests that they think they're to good for that they can't even make eye contact. Also by posing with your arms crossed highlights relaxation. On magazines like Top of the pops they will never sexualise a celebrity as they know their target audience are way to young.

Task 3- Hello Ladies and Gentlemen today I would like to share with you my creative idea for a new fabulous music magazine. The reasons why I think my magazine deserves a place on the shop shelves today is because, I have an engaging title 'R+R'. My magazine title has a acronym and a pun involved because its a play on words. It stands for 'rock and roll' however out also stands for 'relax and read'. I decided to include this in my title because I highlights different options of mood, so my magazine can always be read. I choose to have one of my 'R's' reflecting the other way to represent my magazines individuality and reflection in change of moods.

My house style is completely something different! I can tell you this will be the first time that you have seen this. I am going to have my magazine mainly black, white and orange. I decided to use these colours as they appeal to both sex's, also orange is a very eye catching, beautiful, bright colour. Inside my magazine I'm going to include a regular feature with new bands and telling my readers all about their music with photos, facts, songs, gigs and all details about them. However to display how heavy their music is I am going to show it by the colour of the page. Black pages will be 'Heavy rock'. Dark blue pages will be 'medium rock ', and then light blue pages will just be 'average rock' that everyone can listen to. I decided to try this out because I have never seen any other magazine do this also I am helping my readers find something they enjoy, and I am promoting new bands.

Regular features that I will have inside my magazine will be 'gig guides'. This will include.
• What to wear for a gig
• What you should pack?
• Do's and don't
• Information on upcoming gigs

Each week I will do all of them bullet points but for different types of gigs. Eg, Reading, Glasonbury or just small gigs. I thought it was a great idea to include

Pitch for a new music magazine | Task four

My magazine deserves a place on  the shelves of your shops today, because i am trying to bring out something individual and exciting. That will attract a wide rage of audience who enjoy listening and reading about Rock music. Q is my role model magazine because it has done so well for itself with its own website, radio channel and small clothing line.

An engaging title

The title of my magazine is R+Я this stand for Rock and roll also relax and read. This is a acronym and also a pun because it is symbolizing the style and genre of my magazine.I thought i would have two meanings behind the title to display to my audience that they can be in any mood and still read my magazine. Also by displaying the genre of the magazine in my title it highlights to the audience that if they buy my magazine they must show a adoration to Rock music.

House styleThroughout my magazine I am going to have a black, white and orange house style i decided to use these colours because they are extremely appealing to both sexs, also orange is very eye catching and bold. I have settled for having some of my pages different colors to represent how heavy the bands music is. E.g, black pages convey that the music will be really heavy rock. Dark blue pages is in the middle and baby blue is used for when the music isnt heavy at all. I choose to do this because it illustrates I care for my audience and also make life easier for them so they can flick onto the pages and type of music quickly.

Why are music magazines important?

Music magazine can be really important to some people. Mainly the older generation bought these before they could use the Internet to find out information and gossip on their favourite bands. Many people still buy these to collect them all. Some people just won't a break from the computer and buying a magazine is much easier. It's a much quicker way to get all the research you want in your hands. Also if you have a the magazine you can get pull out posters for your wall also will go into more detail. They also include many more articles about bands, in extreme detail. However most music magazine would give away a free album of music this would attract the audience into them.

M83: Saturdays = Youth | Album Review

M83 is a French electronic music band from Antibes, formed in 2001 by Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau. The band is named after the spiral galaxy Messier 83, and its musical aesthetic is influenced by shoegaze in its extensive use of reverb effects and lyrics spoken softly over loud instrumentals, although M83's songs employ considerably less guitar than most shoegaze bands.Saturdays=Youth- the electronic pop album from French musician M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) opens with a stately piano phrase. His music feels extremely stylish and fresh. It also lives up to its evocative title, but the youth it captures is filtered through nostalgia for the unrepentantly fake sounds of the '80s, transforming them into delicate fantasy pop. Synths whoosh like wind tunnels and ping like lasers, guitars are whipped into ethereal froth, the drums are robotic and proud of it, and the production reproduces the cleaner-than-clean, almost brittle style of the era almost too perfectly. This hyper-stylized teen romance and angst drive the album, taking it to the highest highs and the lowest lows. "We Own the Sky" is jubilant, stretching out into a summery haze of airy vocals and synths; "Too Late" ending with a whispered "you, always."

Alt J: An Awesome Wave | Album Review ∆

Alt-J, who met at Leeds University have been living and recording in a basement in Cambridge, are named after the Mac keyboard command for the "delta" sign. They are a British alternative indie pop quartet, formed in 2007. Their first ever debut album 'An Awesome Wave' was released in May 2012 in Europe. It is one of the favourites to win the 2012 Mercury Prize.Their album has gone Top 20 in the UK, and single "Tessellate" has been all over radio. My favorite song by Alt J is Breeze blocks, as it has unusual beats and sounds fresh and is also extremely creative with strange beats and unusual sounding vocals with different pitches and tempos. Each track by Alt J is swelling with emotion. Every single sound, no matter how small, has been purposely placed where you find it. These are not songs that have been bashed together, even if the melodies at the heart of them are strong enough without the subtle bells and whistles that make this album sound so sophisticated. electronica and bass music are the main genres throughtout this album.
